Running with Purpose: My San Diego Race for Autism & A Weekend to Remember

Saturday, April 12 in San Diego wasn’t just another beautiful California day — it was one of those moments that reminds you why you move, why you travel, and why your heart beats a little harder when it’s for someone you love.
I laced up my sneakers under a soft blue sky, surrounded by hundreds of people all gathering for a reason bigger than themselves: the Race for Autism. Whether walking, jogging, or sprinting — we were united in our support, our stories, and our hope for a more inclusive world.
But this wasn’t just a race.
This was personal.
Running for Someone Special
I ran in honor of a family member — someone whose journey with autism has taught me the meaning of patience, resilience, and unconditional love.
Each mile felt like a tribute.
Each step, a thank you.
Each breath, a promise to keep showing up.
It’s hard to describe the feeling of moving your body not for time or medals, but for meaning. There’s a kind of quiet power in that — like your heart carries you faster than your feet ever could.
A Little San Diego Sunshine
Of course, no trip to San Diego is complete without soaking up its coastal charm. I made time to wander through Old Town, a colorful slice of history where Mexican culture comes alive with music, food, and laughter. The cobblestone paths, artisan shops, and scent of fresh tortillas in the air? Pure magic.

I ate, I explored, I let myself slow down — and it was the perfect balance to the adrenaline and emotion of race day.
Why That Weekend Meant So Much
Traveling is one of my biggest passions, but trips like this are different. When you combine purpose, family, movement, and a new city, something shifts. It’s no longer about checking off sights — it’s about feeling more alive, more connected, more you.
San Diego gave me sunshine, soul food, and the chance to give back in a way that hit close to home. And I’m so, so grateful.
P.S. I did take pics after the race but I was just so sweaty, I didn't think anyone would want to see them!
